IGT Slots

International Game Technology began life as a private company named A-1 Distributing Company in 1971. The success of its video poker machine pushed the company to go public 10 years later, and in 1984, the developer acquired Electronic Data Technologies, making the company one of the first to use computerised player tracking.

It would be in 1992 that IGT would build its name up across the seas with the establishment of IGT Europe, and by 1994, new sales and service offices were opened in Argentina and South Africa. The company acquired two organisations in 1998, those being Barcrest Gaming, and Sodak Gaming.

Into the new millennium, IGT continued acquiring various gaming companies, including Silicon Gaming and Anchor Gaming in 2001, Acres Gaming in 2003, and WagerWorks in 2005, which would open them up to the online gaming industry. It wouldn’t be until July of 2014 that IGT itself would be the business being acquired, with Italian gaming equipment company, GTECH paying a total of $6.4 billion for it, with $4.7 billion of that being in cash and $1.7 billion in assumed debt. However, the IGT name would be retained as the two companies merged, with the full company name now being International Game Technology PLC.

Software Specialities

Purchasing the UK-focused online gaming supplier, WagerWorks, in 2005 for $90 million would bring IGT games to the online market. WagerWorks supplies casino and slot games to various different online gaming sites, including popular platforms like Paddy Power and William Hill. Via this channel, IGT software has also been provided to many casinos, with many slot games gaining popularity. Titles such as DaVinci Diamonds, Jeopardy!, Star Trek, and Wild Wolf have all become well-known games across the online world.

Alongside these slot games, IGT provides online gamers with a selection of table games as well. These include Baccarat, Texas Hold’Em Shootout, Power Blackjack, Hot Streak Roulette, and Pinball Roulette.

It would be in late 2010 that the creation of an interactive division within IGT would bring mobile gaming to the developer. IGT’s WagerWorks and Million-2-1 groups merged into a single global division, headquartered in San Francisco. With this, a strong selection of the company’s games are available via devices operating on iOS and Android, including slots, table games, lotteries and SMS games.

The company has also dipped its feet into the progressive jackpot pond, although hasn’t really created that many products in the area. Only three progressive games exist in the network so far, those being Monopoly, Cluedo, and Cleopatra. While this is fairly minimal when compared to other developers, Cleopatra is one of the largest progressive jackpots available online today.

Summary

IGT is very well-known in the gaming industry, and with the services, games and technology it offers, plus the years of experience behind the company, it’s clear to see why. With rich graphics and thematic slots being provided alongside interactive tables games, lotteries and others, as well as the mobile gaming front, IGT is as up-to-date as if it were only born in the last year or os.
